Frame-off Restoration with Upgrades
“One owner Car” – a description often used to suggest a used
car is somehow the cream of the crop. Our latest restoration
is just that – a “one owner car”.
Behold, the car as it still wears the trim of its era. Slot
mags, dash mounted tach, custom crushed velour interior,
Mallory ignition and a blow proof bell housing.
Its interesting to see this time capsule capture a simpler
era; when a mans transportation was part of his reputation
and washing the car, including the rubber off of the rear
quarter panels, was an enjoyable way to wrap up a predatory
weekend in the car.
Interestingly enough, this car still has its original 440,
833 four-speed minus one 'blown to smithereens' bell
housing, and Dana 60. Miraculously, during initial
disassembly, a crumbling broadcast sheet was found under the
back seat and was immediately laminated... a thin chance
considering the crushed velour interior.
Weeks of cutting, grinding, welding, and more grinding lead
our rotisseried B-body into the paint booth. A metal rust
preventative coat, a primer coat, and the car was ready for
a fresh coat of electric blue metallic. The inside floors
received a rock guard coat to hold down noise and heat, and
the entire interior, doors and firewall included, was fully
insulated to seal the deal. With the paint complete, the
dash was next in line for a complete detailing. New wire
harnesses, refrigeration, and aluminum radiator are welcomed
additions that will enhance another 35 years of driving
excitement in this classic.
The installation of the new interior has been completed. The
original 440 has been installed, and only a few finishing
touches remain.
New power steering, disc brakes, air, heavy duty cooling
system, insulation, and the restoration of the remaining
original systems have resulted in a stunning vintage
automobile. This beautiful, now one of a kind, car has taken
the form envisioned by the original owner, who desires to
enjoy the car once again – restored to his liking.
